David Harum: A Story of American Life

Author is Edward Noyes Westcott
Book is written in English

First Edition; 1889.

The undramatic character of the book's action was something of an impediment to its adaptation to the stage, but its popularity insured that an attempt would be made. The result was a quite serviceable star vehicle for veteran comic actor William H Crane--so much so that Crane became largely identified with the role. In 1915, Famous Players made a film adaptation of the play, again featuring Crane.

In 1934, the story was again adapted to the screen, this time as a vehicle for Will Rogers. In 1936, David Harum became a radio serial, which was broadcast until 1951.

Westcott was able to take up a pen and create in this novel, a character so original, so true, and so strong, yet withal so delightfully quaint and humorous. Most of the scenes are laid in New York, the author's native city. Throughout the book runs a love story which is characterized by sympathetic treatment and a constantly increasing interest.

-Historic Lee's Ferry on the Colorado River-

Author is C. Gregory Crampton, W.L. Rusho
Book is written in English

First Edition; 1975

As Will Rusho and Greg Crampton point out admirably in this book, Lee’s Ferry was the crossroads and also the center of the river man’s world. It was the gateway into the promised land of refudge for many pioneer Mormons, who found new hope and a brighter future for their families in Arizona territory. Some of these were “called” to their missions, while others sought to increase the distance from increasing pressure of prosecution faced by the Latter Day Saints in Utah for their plural marriage practices.

Not of the World

-A Living Account of the United Order-

Author is Lucy Parr
Book is written in English

First Edition; 1975.

Not of the World is an exciting account of a dramatic period in Latter-day Saint history—the era of the United Order. While telling the story of the entire communal-living movement, the book focuses on Orderville, the colony regarded as the best and most exemplary one of all. There are serious chapters and scenes, as well as humorous scenes, which show just how human these pioneers were as they learned to conquer weakness so that they could “live together in love.”

Horizon Publishers takes great pleasure in recommending Not of the World as a book which is entertaining, factual history at its best.

The Gospel Through the Ages

Author is Milton R. Hunter
Book is written in English

Seventh printing; 1957.

The Gospel Through the Ages presents the story of the plan of life and salvation which was instituted by our Heavenly Father and His Only Begotten Son in the spirit world before man was placed upon the earth; and it discusses the revelations of eternal truths from Adam's day forward. The relationship of paganism and world religions to the Gospel of Jesus Christ is shown. Also the story is told of how the human family has sought after salvation; and how all religious truths, regardless of where they were found, came originally from the same source--Jesus Christ and His Eternal Father.

Here is a firm testimony to the Prophet Joseph Smith's calling, from one who knew him intimately. Elder Woodruff speaks too on a wide range of gospel subjects- agency, salvation, revelation, priesthood, temple work, constitutional liberty, the Second Coming. The prayer he offered in dedicating the Salt Lake Temple is also included. All this and much more is found in this collection of choice extracts from the addresses of the fourth President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
